It will affect the handling, but no the speedometer. The tire is wider, not taller, so no change on the speed. It will affect the handling in a POSITIVE way. I put a 140/90-15 Kenda Challenger on Stef's Savage and it did wonders for traction and smoothing out the road. Dunno why, but it does seem to ride over the bumps MUCH better. Now, as Pontiac would say about their Grand Prix, "Wider is better!" It handles the twists and turns like a dream now (tire footprint--the part that touches the road-has A LOT to do with how well it handles). Good choice going with the wider tire. The only thing you will have to worry about now is riding "two-up" if you have saddlebag supports that are mounted on the underside of the fender. If you do have them, the tire will rub on them if you ride two-up or whenever you hit big bumps/holes riding single. To counter that problem, take off the fender rails and use some type of cutting tool (rotary, hacksaw, etc.) and notch out a space in the fender rails so you can mount the supports between the rails and the outside of the fender. That will give you the clearance you need to run the wider tire. Well worth the effort to run the wider tire. Got any more questions, feel free to ask.
